NY Reins in Camera Crooks
The NY State Attorney General's office announced a settlement with seven online digital camera retailers accused of illegal business practices.
Two of the companies - Camera Wiz and Sonic Photo - are closing down. The other five - Best Price Camera, Foto Connection, 1 Way Photo, 86th Street Photo, and Broadway Photo - have agreed to change their business practices. The seven retailers have also agreed to a settlement totalling $765,000.
The companies are accused of fraud, and engaged in bait-and-switch, deception and a number of other illegal practices. They lured customers with promises of prices far below normal retail. And you know what they say, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
CNET is reporting that anyone who feels they were ripped off by one of these companies can submit a claim through the NY State Better Business Bureau. Claims will be accepted from July through December.
