May 7, 2010, Newsletter Issue #135: Has Kodak Lost Their Compass?

Tip of the Week

I own a Kodak DC240. This probably doesn't mean much to you, but it's one of Kodak's earlier digital cameras... and it's a heck of a good product.

At just 2 MP, it's archaic in the resolution department. But the light meter and focus could challenge anything in the digital point-and-shoot market today. It was - and is - one fine camera.

But imaging giant Kodak doesn't get many rave reviews these days. At least not for their cameras. Instead, it's their legal team that's getting all the press.

After successfully suing LG and Samsung over intellectual property issues, Kodak is now taking on RIM (maker of the Blackberry) and Apple.

It's not that I begrudge Kodak their due - if there is one- for patents they've filed. Lord knows, Kodak virtually invented digital photography.

But wouldn't it be great if they'd put this much effort into their digital cameras? I'd love to see another DC240.
